JSE Top 40 constituents
Every share in the FTSE/JSE Top 40, with its market cap and weight in the index, and which companies could come in or drop out at the next quarterly review. That review takes effect after the close on 18 December 2026.
FTSE/JSE Top 40
The 40 largest companies on the JSE by investable market value. A company with two share lines counts once, so the list can hold more than 40 codes.
Weights are our estimate: each share’s weight at the close on 21 September 2026, the first day after the September review, moved with its price since. Market cap is the whole company’s value.
† Only the shares on the South African register count toward the index, less any large strategic holdings. For these companies that is under half of the company, often because it is mainly listed abroad or a parent holds a big stake.
Top 40 review watch
If the next review were run on today’s prices. FTSE ranks every eligible company by investable market value on the close of Monday 23 November 2026. A company comes in if it ranks 35th or higher and drops out at 46th or lower, and the index always holds 40 companies. Changes take effect after the close on Friday 18 December 2026.
Could come in
No company outside the index ranks high enough on today's prices.
Could drop out
No member ranks low enough to drop out on today's prices.
Next in line
The highest-ranked companies outside the index that FTSE has ranked or published a free float for.
Close to the exit line
Members ranked 41st to 45th: still in, with little room.
All of this is an estimate. Members start from their weights after the September review. Companies outside the index start from where the 24 August 2026 review ranked them: FTSE publishes the five highest-ranked outsiders and some free floats, and every other company ranked 46th or lower. Each then moves with its own share price. “Or lower” marks a company held at that 45th-place line, so it could rank well below where it shows.
Not placed: Kumba Iron Ore, Santam, DRD Gold. FTSE has not published how much of these companies counts toward the index. At full value they would rank near the bottom of the Top 40, but a controlling shareholder or a main listing abroad usually puts them far lower, so we leave them out rather than guess.
